The Song Project
A little story
This project is a personal project where I have attempted to capture the essence of retro Malayalam movie aesthetics through illustrations. The inspiration behind the project is my relationship with music from childhood to adulthood and how it changed from the times I hated listening to my dad’s old music playlist in the car to the day I learned to love it for its beautifully written lines.
The process
I selected few lines from the most iconic love songs from the 60s-90s. These songs have been adapted and re-sung in movies from the 20th century. I have used the frames from some of the modern retro style malayalam movie as reference for the illustration. It was challenging to visually illustrate the ‘feeling’ that the lines carried but I enjoyed the whole process.
